When I saw the prompt space, the first thing that came to mind was the solar system, outer space, NASA and the likes. I immediately pictured an astronaut and pondered my thoughts on ET. Wondered how the planets orbit the sun and which between Pluto and Jupiter piqued my interest at that particular moment. As I read along, I refocused on earth and remembered one of the many spaces that have influenced and shaped me into who I am…

It began with a Medium post about a community I came across back when I had a Twitter account. (Thank you…

Work is a constantly spinning wheel…This means we spend every productive and at times unproductive moment doing a task. By definition, it is an activity that exerts mental or physical effort to achieve a result.

The most widely understood form of work is geared towards building a career. We approach it as a journey. On this journey towards building a career, most people aspire for and work towards a dream job. That is if they don’t get that sense from their current role.

A dream job means different things to different people. …

I come up short whenever I attempt to look back on a time when I envisioned me walking down the isle to my missus or mister. I can however vividly remember drawing images of my future house. At least what I believed would be my future home once I came of age. All images always had a long staircase at the front porch, a beautiful bright floral flowerbed to the side and a tall oak tree with a swing in the middle of the compound.

Back then I did not understand anything to do with being a home owner, compound…

The longer I looked into your eyes the more evident it became that we were never getting back to how we were before. It was like I was staring at a complete stranger. Where before we had easy banter was now punctuated by pregnant pauses that weren’t followed by any punchlines… I couldn’t blame you really; I had also transformed in more ways than I could begin to fathom. Yes, there were still semblances of my old self but my reflection was far from what used to be.

Your whole demeanor at best screamed ‘how much longer do I have…

John C. Maxwell shares experiences, anecdotes and stories as he goes about breaking down The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth in his book. Some of the laws are inter-related but overall he emphasizes on taking the time to reflect upon each law before moving onto the next. As you move along the book you will need to answer a number of questions that will involve introspection.

The laws are as follows:

  • The Law of Intentionality — growth doesn’t happen by chance, you have to make moves to make it happen.
  • The Law of Awareness — get to know yourself. Understand…

“Where do you think you’re going?” Sky’s voice boomed as he paced back and forth banging the door in the process. “I’m not even close to done with you!”
I had heard enough of his one sided monologue reprimanding me about my failure to hit the month’s target for the second consecutive quarter. I mean it’s not like I controlled the economy, but that didn’t matter to him. All he cared about was the numbers coming in and the company meeting the bottom line. …

This year's DevFest Nairobi will take place at USIU-Africa, Nairobi on the 19th of October 2019.

GDG DevFest is one of the largest technology conferences in Kenya. This year we are expecting 1500+ people in attendance.

Kenya is one of the most exotically beautiful travel destinations in the world; with three unique contrasting cities and very warm and welcoming people.

Most tourists usually visit the coastal city of Mombasa to enjoy the weather. While others the lakeside city of Kisumu which happens to be a short drive from the equator. Our focus will be on the capital city - Nairobi. Often cited as the place to be, and fondly referred to as ‘the city in the sun’. Bear in mind that the phrase in no way reflects the year round weather in the city.

There are…

Figuring out an equation to solve a specific problem based on some example data

On the 11th of November 2017, I was honored to get the opportunity to lead a code lab with the amazing Catherine Gitau and Muthoni Wanyoike at GDG DevFest Nairobi 2017.

We conducted a Beginner Machine Learning Code Lab. Our focus being Sentiment Analysis using a corpus of movie review data.

Note to self: Don’t be so hard on yourself next time you are called upon to organize a session or make a presentation. You are more than capable, just get out of your head.

I hadn’t made a presentation in a minute… So the weeks leading up to the…
